Senior SAN Engineer

Location: Manassas, VA
The SAN Engineer is responsible for providing on-site day-to-day operational support, subject matter expertise and consultative leadership for data management solutions centered on NetApp Clustered Data ONTAP technology.
Position Responsibilities:
  1. Join customer team to provide daily hands on support for large scale enterprise NetApp environment
  2. Act as the onsite Technical Lead to oversee in-place technical architectures and custom consulting initiatives at the Customer’s location
  3. Work under direct and indirect supervision of Project Manager and Customer’s Supervisor to preform tasks such as: performance monitoring and tuning, storage provisioning, process development, break-fix support, troubleshooting, upgrades and maintenance
  4. Act as a liaison to provide consultative services and guide Customer decision making based on a developed understanding of the Customer’s business and technical requirements
  5. Drive and participate in planning and project status meetings with the Customer and communicate project status to engagement team
  6. Update engagement documentation including discovery and design worksheets, architectural diagrams, implementation procedure documentation and service delivery checklists
  7. Perform solution hardware and software installations, configurations, upgrades, troubleshooting and configuration tasks including; rack/stack, connectivity cabling, functional testing, data migrations, cutover procedures, test plan executions etc. as needed
  8. Adhere to industry best practices for service delivery and assist in the ongoing development and documentation of the internal process and delivery guidelines
  9. Manage customer acceptance of the solution and customer expectations within the scope of the engagement
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field or equivalent (two years of applicable experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of consulting and implementation experience including strategic and tactical planning for service engagements
  2. Superior verbal and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. Ability to develop documentation for delivery to customer
  3. Proven expertise and hands-on experience in the following solutions:
    • NetApp cDOT Storage Solutions including SnapMirror replication
    • EMC Storage Solutions
    • Microsoft Active Directory Services / DFS
    • Symantec NetBackup / NDMP
    • VMware vSphere 5+
    • Cisco Data Center Switching (NX-OS, IOS)
    • OEM Reporting and Management tools such as NetApp OnCommand System Manager, OnCommand Unified Manager (OCUM), VMware vCOps/vROps
  4. Required Industry Certifications include:
  • NetApp NCDA (cDOT)
  1. Certifications preferred but not required include:
  • NetApp NCIE-SAN
  • VMware VCP
  • Cisco CCDA or CCNA
  1. Ability to handle critical information and sensitive situations
  2. Ability to use sound judgment to effectively solve problems
  3. Ability to work with minimal supervision and efficiently handle multiple projects with shifting priorities
Excellent analytical/problem solving and troubleshooting skills in both structured and unstructured environments
